BRIEF
OVERVIEW OF CHAPTER
The Navajo and Hopi land dispute and eventual
land partitions have kept the chapter from needed development. However, recent improvements have
included: a chapter house, pre-school,
telephone service, electrical extensions, domestic water development. The twenty new Mutual Help Housing units are
occupied. Electrical power line
extensions cover most of the rural area.
The chapter undertook a project to have 100 homes with bathroom
additions during the mid-1990s.
Low Mountain Chapter is located near the Hopi
Reservation within the Navajo and Apache Counties. Although the chapter is under the Fort Defiance Agency, all
programmatic services are administered under the Chinle Agency. The chapter completed a Senior Citizen
Center, constructed power and water lines, constructed a new school, made road
improvements, and extended telephone lines.
